How to Avoid Allergies While Introducing Solid Foods
by T. Berry Brazelton, M.D., author of Feeding: The Brazelton Way- Start one new solid food at a time. This gives you a chance to test the baby's sensitivity to it. If you can ferret out which solids he can't tolerate, you may be able to protect your baby from eczema and other allergic reactions to foods.
- Continue with that food for a week.
- Read the labels on baby food jars and cans. If there is more than one kind of food in a container, this is not the time to introduce it.
- Don't use mixtures, because they can be loaded with different kinds of cereals to which you don't want to expose the baby.
- Don't start solids until your baby is at least 4 months old.
