No matter how poor or deprived you feel, it is difficult to stick with that feeling for very long if you turn your focus to Mother Nature. No high-priced ticket is needed. No fancy clothes are required. You don't even have to be on an in-crowd list. You just have to show up.

  • If you're up early today, stop to watch the sunrise.
  • On your walk from the bus stop, parking lot, or subway station, listen and watch for any birds. Notice their shape, color, song, and habits. See if you can later describe and identify each.
  • If you are out on an errand, stop for a minute and appreciate the leaves, shrubs, or a magnificent city skyline.
  • If you notice squirrels playing outside of your window, give in and watch "the show" for a few minutes.
The universe provides many wonders; all we have to do is open our eyes.
