Tips for Safe Chatting

child_comp_shocked.gif Does your teen love to chat online? This interactive feature gives kids the opportunity to communicate with their classmates on the Internet, but they may also meet strangers in chat rooms. Teach your teen these four tips so she can chat safely.

  • Never give out your full name, address, or phone number to people you meet online.

  • Don't use the name of a friend or someone you know. Giving out personal information could endanger their welfare.

  • Never meet an online friend in person. If you meet someone in a chat room who wants to meet face-to-face, tell an adult.

  • If somebody makes you feel uncomfortable by asking sexually oriented questions or using foul language, end the conversation immediately and tell an adult.
