Stanley D. Klein, Ph.D.

Stanley D. Klein, Ph.D., is the former Editor in Chief of Exceptional Parent magazine. Klein, a clinical psychologist and editor, cofounded the magazine in 1971.

Klein serves as a research associate in Medicine (Pediatrics) at Children's Hospital (Boston) where he teaches health-care professionals about working with the parents of children with disabilities, with particular focus on the challenge of delivering difficult diagnostic news.

Klein began working with children with disabilities in 1954, when he was a camp counselor. He received his Ph.D. in psychology from Clark University in 1963. He has received numerous national awards for his work from organizations such as the American Psychological Association, the National Down Syndrome Congress, National Parent Network on Disabilities, American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, and the National Easter Seals Society.

Klein has also appeared on many radio and television programs discussing children with disabilities and their families. In 1964, he served as the child development expert on a daily radio program in Boston.

Klein is currently serving as a consultant to Abilities Expo (The #1 Show of Products and Services for People with Disabilities) and to Merrill Lynch. He is also working on several books. He is married and the father of two children.
