Homeland (2000)

Rating:No Rating
Genre:Drama
Release Date:July 20, 2000
Running time:30 minutes

Description: The modern-day descendents of the Lakota Indian tribe struggle for survival against a cycle of poverty that has crippled their people in this documentary. Homeland examines the residents of a Native American reservation in Pine Ridge, SD, where employment opportunities are few, housing is substandard, and the best option available to most residents is to leave behind the land of their birth -- and the cultural ties that go along with it. In the face of long odds, the Lakotas of Pine Ridge try to build a better life for themselves: Thurman Horse looks for a market for his gifts as an artist; Doris Eagle, a middle-aged woman, watches with love and patience over six children abandoned by neglectful parents; and Marian White Mouse tries to move her family out of the rattletrap home they've inhabited for the past 17 years into something better. Homeland was shown in competition at the 2000 American Film Institute Film Festival.~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
