  Your Child, Ages 12-18

Teen boy sticks out his tongue

Dear Parents,
The teen years are when kids try to truly define their identities. This can manifest itself in several ways: Chronic worrying is common, as are physical insecurities and outrageous fashion statements. The trick as a parent is to try to see the world through your child's eyes. It's still your job to set limits on behavior -- keep them reasonable, and be consistent.

Also in this issue, teaching teens to budget is one of the most important, yet overlooked, lessons a parent can impart. Budgeting takes real-world knowledge, from the hidden costs of owning a car to the perils of credit cards.

And finally, celebrate this month's holidays with quizzes about Presidents' Day and Black History Month.
