In response to this worrying and dangerous trend, First Lady Michelle Obama is taking action with her recently launched campaign, Let's Move, which aims to solve the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation. Mrs. Obama is seeking to provide families with the simple tools needed to help kids be more active, eat better, and become healthy. The campaign involves the federal government working with local officials to help provide more nutritious meals in schools and to help give communities easier access to healthy, affordable foods. In addition, Mrs. Obama is highlighting the importance of being physically active by expanding the President's Physical Fitness Challenge and enlisting professional athletes from twelve leagues to promote "60 Minutes of Play a Day" through clinics and public service announcements.
The Let's Move campaign has garnered the support of the nation's leading children's health foundations, all of which have joined forces to create a new independent foundation called the Partnership for a Healthier America aimed at accelerating existing efforts and making new commitments to help end this trend.
