Take a Power Nap

When your eyelids feel heavy, your shoulders are drooping, or you find yourself yawning in the middle of a telephone call, it's time to surrender!

  • Lock your door, take the phone off the hook, set your watch (or computer alarm) for ten minutes, and let your next task wait.
  • Put your head down on your desk (like in kindergarten), sit in a chair with your feet propped up, stretch out on a rug, or curl up on a sofa (if you're lucky enough to have one nearby).
  • Close your eyes, take a few deep, slow breaths, and rest — just as if you were out in a hammock on a Sunday afternoon, taking a good old-fashioned, lazy-days-of-summer nap.
You'll be amazed at how refreshed you'll feel after just ten minutes of shut-eye. So what if you get caught? Just say you're taking a power nap. Hey, if it worked for Edison and Einstein, it just might refresh your inner genius too!
