Husband Abuses Child

Toddler and Teenager Expert Advice from Carleton Kendrick, Ed.M., LCSW

Q: My husband leaves marks on my kid. What should I do?

A: No child should be beaten at all, but a child who's being hit hard enough to bear marks on his body suffers from physical abuse.

I strongly suggest that you and your husband see a therapist to discuss your husband's physical abuse of your child. If your husband doesn't want to go for professional help, maybe a family member or friend could persuade him. If not, you must seek help on your own for your child because he needs you to be his protector. That's the birthright of every child. You may need to consult your state's children's protective services for assistance. Do not let this situation continue any longer. Get your son the protection that he needs and get yourself the help you need to insure his safety and well-being.
