Ingredients: (Hit your return key to start a new line)
3/4 cup granulated sugar 3/4 cup packed brown sugar 1 cup margarine or butter, softened 1 egg 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 package of semisweet chocolate chips (about 2 cups) 1 cup of coarsely chopped nuts (optional)
Directions:
Heat the oven to 375°. Mix both sugars, margarine or butter and egg in a large bowl with a wooden spoon. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt. Mix well (dough will be stiff). Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until light brown, 8 to 10 minutes (centers will be soft). Let cookies cool slightly, then remove from cookie sheet with a spatula.
Other suggestions and comments:
Your child will have fun helping you measure and mix all of the ingredients (especially pouring in and eating some of the chocolate chips!) Use M&M's instead of chocolate chips for a variation.
