Appropriate age group(s):
4th grade and up.

Description of technique:
Your child wants the latest CD of a particular artist whose lyrics you find offensive, the argument presented is ?l of the other kids have it, why can? I? Try to remember how it felt when you wanted things that your parents didn? think you should have. Keep an open mind. Why not go with your child and listen to CD cuts before you buy anything. What is the language like? If it does not pass your approval, explain to your child what you are basing your decision on and find another artist that you can both agree upon.

From an early age, expose your children to many musical styles, attend a variety of live concerts and listen to music as a family. In doing so, your children may acquire a well-rounded interest in many musical styles far beyond that which is in fashion.
