Expert/company advocating this approach (if applicable):
Mother of 3, learned a lot from Baby No.2
Description of method:
I had always heard that girls "go" much faster than boys. "Girls" are "a breeze", I had heard time and time again.
I began in June with my daughter. She absolutely refused to sit on either the potty or toilet (with the seat that fits over the opening). I let it go for a week and tried again. No luck. She knew she should be going because she mentioned that her other friends do "pee-pee" like big girls and her girl cousins as well. When asked why she wasn't a Big Girl yet, her reply-"I don't know".
I read books, watched videos, took her with me on my bathroom visits, pulled out the old sticker chart. NOTHING WORKED.
I finally started to pay attention to her body language and when I saw signs, physically and verbally, I took her to the bathroom, sat her down and she finished what she started on our trip. I cleaned a lot of accidents, but within a week she was day-trained. Nights are a work-in-progress.
Talking to her about it daily and watching her closely helped me to understand that she wanted to go but had reservations she couldn't verbalize. She would say "Mommy, I don't have to do it"- which translated to "Mommy, I Gotta go" because right after she said that and I sat her down, she would pee. Look for your child's signs and all will work out.
